Plant Care
Botanical name - Stromanthe 'Triostar'
Origin - Tropical rainforests of Brazil
When thinking of my perfect conditions think the dappled light of a tropical rainforest.
Bright indirect light
Being in a bright spot will keep my striking patten on my leaves vibrant but be careful not to scorch me in harsh direct sunlight. In the wild I live in the forest undergrowth thriving in dappled shade.
Regular watering and high humidity
I love humidity and like my soil to be kept lightly moist but not soggy. Allow my top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. When watering wait until you see water coming out the bottom of the pot but don't leave my roots sitting in water. I love a good misting twice a week in summer or why not pop me in a humid bathroom.
Care tips
Humidity is key with me! If my leaves are looking crispy at the edges in most cases this is due to low humidity or under watering. Why not up your watering and misting regime. If I yellow at the edges of my leaves and go limp this is usually caused by too much water. Something to watch out for!
Keep me away from cold drafts or heater in winter please!
If you notice one of my leaf tips turn yellowish at the edge, especially my older leaves, it might be the tap water. If you leave a watering can of tap water to stand overnight before watering the chlorine and fluoride can evaporate. Remove my old yellow leaves to keep me growing strong and healthy. If only a little of my leaf is brown or yellow you can carefully trim it off with a sharp pair of scissors or pruning shears.
If you notice dust building on my leaves gently wipe me down with a clean damp cloth. Please don't use any cleaning products I don't like the taste!
